Dorset Indian Association (DIA) is a socio-cultural organisation and registered UK charity (Charity No. 1189959), based in Bournemouth and Poole, dedicated to promoting cultural harmony, social inclusion and shared traditions within the wider Dorset community.

The name “DIA” means “The Sacred Light” – a light that knows no boundaries and shines equally on everyone. True to this spirit, we believe in building bridges between communities through culture, connection and compassion. Each year, we organise vibrant Indian and Bengali cultural festivals, including Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja, Pohela Boishakh and Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti. These celebrations showcase our rich cultural heritage and warmly welcome everyone to participate, regardless of their background or beliefs.

Beyond cultural celebrations, we are committed to supporting community wellbeing through health awareness campaigns, educational programmes, charitable activities and fundraising initiatives. We work alongside and support respected organisations including Julia’s House, BBC Children in Need, St Mungo’s, Dorset Race Equality Council, Wessex Cancer Alliance, Dorset Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and LiveWell Dorset. Through these activities and partnerships, we aim to make a meaningful contribution to our local community, encourage greater understanding and preserve our shared cultural heritage.
