Dorset Indian Association

Dorset Indian Association (DIA) is a socio-cultural organization based in Bournemouth and Poole. DIA in literary sense means 'The Sacred Light', the light that has no boundaries and enlightens one and all. In its true spirit we beleive in Social inclusion and Shared Traditions.

The organization celebrates the rich and diverse culture of India in its best form by organising events such as Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja and many more every year in Dorset. To keep up with our motto, every year DIA invites local community to rejoice, enjoy and soak with the colour and light of our festivals. We invite local primary schools to participate in these events so that children develop awareness and understanding of enshrining principles of these festivals that helps them to integrate with children coming from different faith groups and cultural backgrounds. In 2017, Year 5 and 6 students and teachers from St Martin’s School, Bournemouth attended and participated in Durga Puja festival that helped students to prepare for their Religious Studies unit.

DIA is also in the forefront of delivering value added services to the local communities, mainly in Bournemouth and Poole. We raise funds and donate to charities such as St Mungos’s to help rough sleepers in Bournemouth and Poole.

Dorset Indian Association liaise, collaborate and engage with other similar voluntary and charity organisations to promote good relationships and to support community cohesion. We offer educational opportunities to children and adults who would like to develop a deeper understanding of Indian art, culture and heritage. Dorset Indian Association also aim to conduct workshops on health and wellbeing within the community.
